Greetings from Nima in Accra, Ghana!
Hello, my name is Reeves Major and I am CFK’s newest intern! I am from Greenville, South Carolina. I joined CFK a few months ago.
Just yesterday, I arrived in Accra via a 14 hour long flight. Here in Accra, the area of Nima specifically, Emmanuel and a small team (including myself) are implementing a CFK project called WAGiLabs. This project is designed to allow children to foster ideas to solve crucial problems facing their community. It works by providing a safe space for brainstorming. CFK uses a Playbook designed by WAGiLabs to help them guide the process.
Today was our first day at the Apostolic Hope School in Nima. With cooperation from the staff as well as the children’s parents, Emmanuel and I gained permission to run the program for 3 hours a day starting at 7AM. The children are missing 2 hours of their regular schooling, but they were given the opportunity to make up for lost time after the final class of the day had ended.
The children, ages ranging from 8 through 11, were very eager to see why they had been selected for this “special” class. We explained to them that CFK believed in their abilities as future pillars of their communities and that the time spent with us was to be a free forum of ideas and creativity. When asked what they wanted to be when they grew up many of the children said responses such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, and even a chemist or a surgeon. These lofty goals surprised us, but at the same time we felt inspired to help them along the path to making these dreams become reality.
Emmanuel and I also taught them the WAGI greeting which involved some funny hand gestures that the children especially loved. We closed the first day with some picture taking and laughs.
Overall the first day went exactly as planned, if not better. This group of 12 shows extreme potential and untapped ideas that the CFK team are excited to ignite in the coming weeks!
Good stuff kid, keep it coming. We are waiting for our world youth to rise and prosper in peace for their future.
Indeed, these are the future leaders who need the sort of guidance you guys are giving them now. Great team, great stuff, i enjoyed every bit of it myself. Good work done. Cheers.
